The future of motorsports has dawned in the form of the world's first fully electric car racing series. These races are designed for a whole new generation of motorsport fans.
On September 13th, 2014, the FIA Formula E Championship kicked off in Beijing for the first of a ten race circuit.
The Formula E Championship is not only an exciting spectator sport, it also focuses on the promotion of clean energy and sustainability. The Formula E is centered around three core values: Energy, Environment and Entertainment.
The ten race season runs from September 2014 through to June 2015. There are a total of ten teams, each with two drivers, who will go head-to-head creating a unique and exciting racing series. The championship will compete in the heart of 10 of the world's leading cities Beijing, Long Beach, Miami, Buenos Aires, Punta Del Este, London, Berlin, Monte Carlo and Putrajaya
The Formula E Championship is also an R&D testing ground for electric vehicle technology like extended battery life. Next year Formula E will operate as an 'open championship', allowing teams and manufacturers the opportunity to showcase their own electrical energy innovations. The innovations we see on the track may one day filter into the everyday electric vehicle market.
Formula E is striving to improve the image and perception of electric vehicles and to encourage more people to buy and use them. By acting as a catalyst between companies, leaders, experts, cities and policy-makers Formula E expects to help advance the widespread adoption of a fully electric future.
Formula E promotes the purchase of electric cars, which diminishes the number of combustion engine powered vehicles, this in turn decreases fossil fuel use and reduces emissions.
The organizers believe that Formula E can help sell an additional 77 million EVs worldwide, thereby reducing oil consumption by 4 billion barrels and save almost $34 billion on healthcare..
