Regional Conference on Sustainable Data Centre (Event)

The Regional Conference on Sustainable Data Centre will take place on November 28, 2012 and November 29, 2012 5:00 pm, in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. Data centres are evolving rapidly in response to the rapid growth in the digital world. In order to reduce costs and increase flexibility, organisations are merging data centres and adopting innovative green technology strategies, ranging from virtualisation to new application in IT architectures and cloud computing.

Recent estimate says that the world’s data centres currently consume approximately 330 billion kWh of electricity every year, almost as much as the entire electricity demands of the UK. Most of that energy comes from non-renewable resources, and it is believed that data centres account for as much as 0.2% of the world’s total greenhouse gas emissions. In addition, many industries are growing concurrently with growth of data centres. This results in the demand for huge data centres capacities. It is expected that the demand for capacity will grow at about 12% p.a. over the next ten years as businesses continue to utilize automated processes, store data, archive historical information and adopt rich media. It is expected that in the year 2020, data centres will account for more carbon emissions than the global airline industry!

Programme in a Nutshell

· Roadmap to green data centre certification to enhance business profiles
· Creating innovative data centre blueprint to sustain competitive edge in the industry
· Execution and commissioning of green data centre development through practical strategies
· Leading the pack via proven operational cost reduction methods
· Keeping abreast with Green IT enlightenment for business owners and corporate leaders
· Risk mitigation and corporate data protection through reinforcement of physical and information security
· Introducing eco-efficient approaches in managing network storage and data management
· Improvising through wining gameplays in Virtualisation and Cloud Computing
· Increasing energy efficiency while reducing power consumption for next generation computer centres
· Developing certified data centre professionals as a long term measure for corporate sustainability

International Green Awards – Gala Ceremony and Dinner (Event)

International Green Awards – Gala Ceremony and Dinner will take place on November 20, 2012 6:30 pm - 11:30 pm, at Battersea Power Station in London, UK. The International Green Awards is a global platform for sustainability intelligence, innovation and leadership. This year, the awards are recognising the ‘most sustainable’ organisations across the globe, as exhibited by eight indicators of any holistic sustainability strategy.

The awards launched in 2006 to critical acclaim with the objective of recognising the best-in-class examples of sustainability communications and have gone from strength-to-strength since then. In 2009, the Awards introduced an ‘International’ category, encouraging applications from the world over. The response to this category was overwhelming and thus, in 2010, the Awards opened all categories to global participation and culminated with an international Grand Prix winner – China Environmental Protection Foundation in association with DDB-China.
The inaugural 'Lifetime Achievement  Award' was given to Sir David Attenborough for his lifelong commitment to biodiversity.

In 2011, the awards widened its remit to encompass 360° sustainability projects in business and introduced the 'Best Green International Celebrity Award', open to public voting for the first time, was won by Brazilian supermodel Gisele Bundchen. Kenyan visionary Prof. Wangari Maathai was posthumously honoured with our 2nd Lifetime Achievement Award for establishing perhaps the greatest tree planting initiative - the Green Belt Movement. Global FMCG leader Unilever bagged the Green Grand Prix, by virtue of their ambitious 'Sustainable Living' plan.

In 2012, the awards are looking to recognise organisations that have exhibited leadership and innovation in their sustainability approach. This year, we are bringing together 7 years worth of expertise and experience to develop a sustainability review platform – Smarter Business.

The Smarter Business platform provides a standard scale of reference to benchmark sustainability performance. The platform objectively assesses an organisation’s sustainability strategy using 8 key indicators – energy, water, waste, resources, carbon, supply chain, transport and social. Participating organisations will receive feedback and analysis on their sustainability strategy and resulting impact on their financial bottom line.

The National Clean Energy Workforce Education Conference (Event))

The 5th national Clean Energy Workforce Education Conference (CEWEC) is scheduled for November 13-15, 2012 at the Albany Marriott, Albany, New York. This event offers the most current information on instructional strategies, curriculum development, credentialing and best practices for training in the renewable energy and energy efficiency fields. There will be more than 60 presentations over three days including a look forward at some new and thought-provoking next generation technologies and workforce needs.

Since 2004, The Interstate Renewable Energy Council, Inc., (IREC) and The New York State Energy Research Development Authority (NYSERDA) have been providing a national platform for educating the renewable energy and energy efficiency workforce. In just seven short years, the conference has grown from 40 to 500 clean energy educators and trainers from all over the U.S.

As reviewed in a Clean Energy World article, IREC Executive Director Jane Weissman said:

“We’re working at an accelerated pace with industry, government and educators to attract and prepare a quality clean energy workforce, well trained in a broad range of technologies. This conference shares the latest best practices and priorities in training and safety, with the spotlight on the future, and the benefit of learning from the past.”

Here are some highlights:

Community-Focused Training – involving the community in workforce training programs, including learning techniques and mentoring programs for diverse populations.

Workforce for the Smart Grid – how community colleges and advanced degree programs are responding to the redesign of the power grid, and skill sets needed for incumbent and new workers.

Talking About Jobs – a look at labor-market analysis and differentiating between clean energy job forecasts and green jobs myths. A case study looks at retraining displaced Kennedy Space Center workers.

Online Training – the Next Generation. Learn about core learning principles and how 3D computer simulation embedded in a game-based framework is being used for renewable energy and energy efficiency training and testing.

Setting Training to Industry Standards – a variety of programs come in various forms and intensities, and offer a range of market value benefits. Learn about national and international approaches and how training and certificate programs do best by working in alignment with industry.

Strategies for Training – a look at some important models, including “learn-as-you-earn” internship/apprenticeships and on-the-job training. Also lessons learned from programs working with local public schools and community colleges.

The Value of Consortiums and Partnerships – regional approaches to training brings benefits and challenges. The design, structure and outcomes of five consortiums and partnerships will be discussed.

Additional break-out sessions include: Approaches in Course Development; Setting Training to Industry Standards; Integrating STEM into clean Energy Training; Teaching and Teacher Techniques; Responding to Market Needs; Hands-On Training; State’s Impact on Workforce Development: the NY Model; and Career Pathways Models.

Key issues in renewable and efficient energy will also be presented in 90-minute individual and panel discussions. Topics include:

Policy Impacts on the Workforce Building an Industry Standard – What you Need to Know and Why Planning for the Future Renewable Energy Market – What the Unions Are Doing Creating a Benchmark for Quality – Guidelines for Home Energy Professionals Training and Education in a Maturing Solar Energy Photovoltaic Manufacturing Workforce Education and Training at CNSE Building a Green Career lattice – How to Map Skills, Training and Jobs in the Clean Energy Economy

“This is the foremost event for sharing the most effective clean energy workforce development ideas from across the nation,” says Francis J. Murray Jr., president and CEO of the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA), the primary conference sponsor.

The Regeneration of CSR 10th Annual Summit (Event)

The Regeneration of CSR 10th Annual Summit, will take place on November 7, 2012 at 7:30 AM - 9:00 PM Eastern Time. The event will be held at One King West, 1 King, Street West, Toronto, Ontario. Hear inspiring speakers and network with peers. The 10th Annual Summit is subtitled "The Essential Role of Business in Building a Sustainable Future."

For the last decade CBSR has gathered industry and thought leaders to explore and share CSR issues of importance to corporate Canada. Each year they bring together North America’s top experts, executives and practitioners from leading companies, governments, academic institutions and non-governmental organizations.

In the last decade, the CSR discussion has evolved from mitigating risks, to the realization that strategically embedding positive environmental and social impact is good for business. This year, our 10th Annual Summit will celebrate the Regeneration of CSR and define what it means to be a truly sustainable company!

Following the CBSR Summit, we invite you to attend The Excellence in Corporate Responsibility (ECR) Awards Dinner. The ECR Awards were developed to honour and celebrate corporate Canadians for outstanding work and dedication towards creating sustainable and ethical practices within the business framework. The awards recognize professionals from small, medium and large corporations in every industry.
