WWF-Canada's Green CommUnity School Grants Program

WWF-Canada is in its fourth cycle of the Green CommUnity School Grants Program. Through the support of Loblaw Companies Limited, WWF-Canada will grant $600,000 over three years, up to $200,000 a year, to Canadian elementary and secondary schools.

The grant program aims to support school projects that will connect students with nature, help reduce a community’s impact on the environment, increase understanding of environmental issues and solutions, stimulate environmental leadership, and inspire students and communities to take action.

The application deadline is Thursday, October 13th, 2011 at 3:00 pm EST. Proposed projects must be implemented between February 1, 2012 and January 31, 2013. Winners will be announced in December 2011.

Chill Out: Climate Action on Campus

Created by the National Wildlife Federation, Chill Out: Climate Action on Campus, is America's first competition and awards program recognizing college and university innovation to reduce global warming pollution.

Each year, the Chill Out competition recognizes the projects and people making a difference. The winners are showcased in an annual webcast to inspire action and leadership at high schools, colleges and universities nationwide.

The National Wildlife Federation is America's largest conservation organization. They work with more than 4 million members, partners and supporters in communities across the country to protect and restore wildlife habitat, confront global warming and connect with nature.

Online Course: Environmental Mechanisms and Impact Assessment Methods

This course explores how the various impact assessment methods are modeling the fate, transport & exposure pathways (causality chain, mechanisms) of emissions. The course allows participants to understand each impact category and why your results change when you use different impact assessment methods.

The course discusses the environmental science of impact categories and is intended for students who have not previously studied environmental science. This course will point out the strengths and weaknesses of the major internationally accepted impact assessment methods, thus allowing you to choose the best method for your LCA study.

The course is split up in to 5 three hour online sessions during the time of Sept 14 through Nov 30. For more details on how the course is split up and and what each session includes see the full course description.

The Best Eco-Inventions of 2009: Education
