Video - Archimedes: New Home Windmill Design
The Liam F1 is an urban wind turbine created by Archimedes. Their new windmill design can power small homes and apartments. The Archimedes windmill design is quiet and boasts an 80 percent efficiency ratio.
Based on the Archimedes' screw principle, the Liam F1 is modeled after a Nautilus shell. The Dutch developers eschewed the traditional concept of pressure differential between the front and rear to move the rotors.
It measures about 1.5 meters wide and weighs 75 Kg according to its creators, the Liam F1 generates an average of 1,500 kilowatt-hours of energy [per year] at a wind-speed of 5 m/s [16.4 ft/s]. The Liam can also adjust to wind direction maximizing the amount of energy harvested.
The Liam F1 is priced at Eur 3,999 or about US$ 5,450. To date Archimedes has sold 7,000 units in 14 countries.
