Event - UN Climate Change Summit 2014: Catalyzing Action

The UN Climate Change Summit is titled "Catalyzing Action." It will take place on September 23, 2014 in New York City. The event encompasses leading representatives of government, finance, business, and civil society. They are coming together with the hope that we can galvanize and catalyze climate action. Never has this been more urgent. As climate change disrupts the world's economies, there is growing interest in affordable, clean, scalable solutions.

UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon is urging governments to come together in support of an ambitious global agreement. Such an agreement is intended to pave the way for dramatic reductions in emissions, stronger climate resilience, and above all political will resulting in a globally bind treaty in 2015.

The overarching goal of the UN Climate Summit is an accord that is scheduled for next year in Paris. With this in mind, the Summit will focus on actions and solutions that will keep the world from warming more than a global average of 2-degree Celsius.

At this summit the private sector and civil society come together to accelerate progress in areas that go far to reduce emissions and strengthen resilience. energy; short-lived climate pollutants; cities and transportation; sustainable agriculture and forestry; adaptation and disaster risk reduction; and climate finance and the economic drivers.

"The benefits of taking action to address climate change have become ever more compelling. Many countries and businesses have already realized the economic opportunities and reduced risks related to decreasing greenhouse emissions and strengthening resilience. They are reaping the benefits of sustainable low carbon economic growth, resilient infrastructure, new markets, decent jobs, energy independence, women’s empowerment, cleaner air, and improved public health."
