Despite progress, most government leaders have been woefully inadequate in their efforts to manage climate change. This is particularly true of conservatives. World leaders will only respond when there is sufficient popular support and right now they are lacking in political will and leadership.
One poll showed that more than three quarters of sustainability experts surveyed said they think it will take an apocalyptic event to move governments forward. Hurricane Sandy may prove to be a catalyst for change in the US. The disaster provides a tangible reminder of the need for governments to aggresively manage climate change.
