Why You Should Attend

Even if your practice is specialized, this comprehensive, advanced accredited course from ALI CLE provides you with a broad overview of all the latest developments arising in each of the major areas of environmental law, so that you not only have an understanding of the “big picture,” but also are on alert to changes in other intersecting facets of environmental law that may affect your law practice.

What You Will Learn

The 43rd annual presentation of this advanced continuing legal education program, featuring over 15 hours of instruction, particularly looks at environmental law under the post-election administration including legislative initiatives, regulatory changes, and recent judicial decisions.

A series of optional introductory lectures on the Clean Air Act, Clean Water Act, and Comprehensive Environmental Response, Compensation, and Liability Act (CERCLA) on the Wednesday evening before the first full day of the course provides some grounding for newer attorneys and a refresher for more experienced attorneys. This course continues to offer a unique opportunity for environmental lawyers to learn about important new developments in the field. This year, the course gives special attention to the process of setting environmental standards – how clean does clean have to be? – as well as the environmental regulation of energy featuring hydraulic fracturing, electricity, and nuclear power.

In addition to more advanced presentations on the subjects covered during the introductory lectures, a faculty composed of seasoned private practitioners, senior public officials from federal and state agencies, law professors, and other public interest advocates brings you up-to-date on:

  • CERCLA and hazardous waste
  • Air and climate change in the courts and state and federal administrations
  • Environmental standards
  • Congressional and U.S. Supreme Court developments
  • NEPA and environmental justice
  • Water resources, quality, and wetlands
  • International environmental compliance and global supply chains
  • One hour of CLE ethics credits
  • Environmental regulation of energy
  • Developments involving the Endangered Species Act and public lands

A reception on Thursday evening provides registrants with additional opportunities to network with the faculty and other registrants. Time is reserved throughout the program for the faculty to address questions from the registrants
