Energy Storage in California Schools

Schools in California are leading proponents of energy efficiency and the low carbon economy. To illustrate the point a number of California school districts are working with Green Charge Networks to provide lithium ion-based battery storage. Overall Green Charge is installing more than 1,500 kWh of energy storage capacity under Power Efficiency Agreements (PEAs). Green Charge has also tied electric vehicle charging stations into each of these systems.

There are no upfront costs associated with these initiatives and the savings from energy amounts to as much as 50 percent off their demand charges. Each school expects to save tens of thousands of dollars through this effort.

The four schools districts involved are Mountain View-Los Altos Union High School District, Oak Park Unified School District, Butte Community College, Peralta Community College District. The California State University, Fullerton is also on-board with this energy storage program.
