Renault's Zoe 117 MPG Electric Car Concept

Renault has laid down the gauntlet at the Paris Auto Show with its Zoe electric car. This vehicle is Renault's response to the challenge set by the French government to produce a 117 mpg car by 2020. The 117 mpg rating achieved by the Zoe equates to 2 liters of fuel per 100 km.

What makes this highly efficient all new vehicle interesting is that it is a revolutionary futuristic design which is not based on an existing Renault platform. This has enabled Renault to make an extremely light weight vehicle which is even lighter than the car company's existing lineup.

To achieve an optimal level of efficiency, dramatic weight reduction must be partnered with dramatic aerodynamic improvements.

The design is expected to combine regular hatchback, crossover and sports car styling.

The Zoe has the kind of design elements that will be required if vehicles are to attain the radical efficiency demanded by the carbon constrained world of tomorrow.
