In addition to the courses designed specifically for the program, sustainability management students can take classes across Columbia’s graduate schools, including the School of International and Public Affairs, the Mailman School of Public Health, Graduate School of Architecture, Planning and Preservation, Columbia Business School, Columbia Law School, the Graduate School of Arts and Science, and the Fu Foundation Graduate School of Engineering.
Practicum in Innovative Sustainability Leadership
Managers have a key role to play in advancing sustainability by developing ways to integrate resource conservation and efficiency in the operations of their organizations, and by managing environmental risk. These functions raise familiar management questions: how to make sustainability strategic, how to motivate staff, how to set targets and measure performance, and how to pay for new initiatives. This new class systematically exposes students to the ways in which leading sustainability practitioners manage these issues in practice.
