For the third consecutive year, the North American edition of the Sustainable Foods Summit will be hosted in San Francisco. The 7th edition of this international series of summits will take place on 22-23rd January 2013. Focal themes of this new edition are food security & waste, marketing best-practices and new technologies.
Poor agricultural harvests are leading to another bout of food inflation, raising questions about food security. How can the food industry be more efficient and raise production yields? What role does organic and sustainable agriculture play in improving food security? What is the role of organic and other eco-labels in a food industry that is increasingly focusing on the triple bottom-line?
Tackling food waste is another focus. With the global population projected to rise to 9 billion in 2050, there is a growing realization that the answer to improved food supply is not just higher production levels but greater efficiency. A third of food produced for human consumption is lost or wasted, however how can supply chains become more efficient? What can the private sector do to reduce losses / wastage? What are the best-practices for landfill diversion and food recovery programs? What can be done to encourage responsible consumption? The Sustainable Foods Summit aims to address such questions in a high-level forum.
Organized by Organic Monitor, the Sustainable Foods Summit is a series of international summits that focuses on the leading issues the food industry faces concerning sustainability and eco-labels, such as Organic, Fair Trade, Rainforest Alliance, UTZ Certified, etc. The aim of the Sustainable Foods Summit is to explore new horizons for eco-labels and sustainability in the food industry by discussing key industry issues.
