On Monday, April 18, thousands of people came together for a rally outside the US Chamber of Commerce in Washington DC.
Their goal was to reveal the Chamber as a front group for the fossil fuel industry. They also called on President Obama and Congress to stand up for people, not polluters, and take action against climate change and in support of clean energy.
The rally is the culmination of Power Shift 2011 which took place between April 15 - 18. This conference was held in Washington DC for over 10,000 youth leaders from across the country. Over the course of the weekend thousands of people attended hundreds of trainings and workshops. They also listening to inspiring speakers like EPA Administrator Lisa Jackson and 350.org founder Bill McKibben. The rally in Washington is consistent with 350.org's The US Chamber of Commerce Doesn't Speak for Me campaign.
