Solar to Power Two Universities in Washington DC

Two universities in the nation's capital have announced a 52 megawatts (MW) solar photovoltaic project. George Washington and American university's joint Capital Partners Solar Project, is a 20-year agreement that will substantially reduce carbon emissions at the two universities and the George Washington University (GWU) Hospital.

The project was designed by Customer First Renewables and it will directly source energy from three Duke Energy Renewables solar sites in North Carolina.

This energy will provide more than half of the electricity needs for the universities and more than one-third of GWU’s hospital’s needs.

Together these projects will reduce carbon emissions by 60,000 metric tons or the equivalent of taking 12,500 cars off the road.

The projects are expected to be completed by late 2015.
