A recent report found that trucking companies should not rely solely on the SmartWay Transport Partnership Program, which calculates emissions of a company’s on-road vehicle fleet. The
study by the American Transportation Research Institute said that significant sources of trucking company emissions also include on-site equipment, office space, air-conditioning and refrigeration systems.
According to a
report by Fleet Owner, there are variables that must be factored including things like GHG emissions from purchased electricity which can vary significantly throughout the country.
The study suggests that there is need for standardization of carbon accounting. Standardized carbon accounting is an important part of measuring and reducing emissions.
