Declaration of Independence from Fossil Fuels

On the fourth of July 2019, Americans need to start preparing for new leadership and thinking seriously about declaring their independence from dirty sources of energy. Two hundred and forty three years ago, US colonies freed themselves from the injustice of British rule, now America needs to free itself from the tyranny of dangerously incompetent leadership.

The United States' Declaration of Independence is a statement adopted by the Continental Congress on July 4, 1776. On that day, thirteen American colonies proclaimed their freedom from Great Britain.

The industrial revolution began shortly after the American revolution. These two revolutions fueled America's meteoric rise to global dominance. While, fossil fuels are the engine that drove this growth as a leading cause of both pollution and climate change, it is time for them to be replaced with cleaner alternatives.

Everyone wants a livable planet and everyone wants clean air, soil and water. To get there we will need to break our dependence on fossil fuels.

We will need to rethink are conceptions of progress and some of the basic notions embedded in the old economy. Simply put we need more efficient and sustainable visions for the future. We must find ways of meeting our energy needs while radically decreasing pollution and climate change causing emissions. This means we must begin moving towards 100 percent renewable energy.

The G7 has already agreed to eradicate fossil fuel use by 2100 and getting all our energy from clean sources is possible in the US. Stanford professor Mark Jacobson is among a growing number of researchers who have provided evidence to support the contention that we can transition to 100 percent renewable energy in the US. Jacobson has developed plans to transform the power infrastructure of all 50 states.

Before any of this can happen Americans must bring an end to this administration and Republican control of the Senate. Progress is not possible until we stop the ruling administration's irresponsible denial of climate change and the GOP's unyielding support for dirty energy.

It is time to herald a new era powered by renewable sources of energy and it starts by getting rid of the worst federal government in the history of the Republic. Eliminating fossil fuel use and adopting renewable energy is our only hope if we are to stave off the worst impacts of climate change.
