Event - International Renewable Energy Agency assembly

The sixth session of the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) Assembly will take place on Saturday, January 16, 2016 to Sunday, January 17, 2016 in Abu Dhabi, UAE.

The Assembly is IRENA’s ultimate decision-making authority and is made up of one representative from each Member. It convenes annually to discuss and decide upon issues such as the work programme, the budget, the adoption of reports, applications for membership and potential amendments to Agency activities.

The sixth session of the IRENA Assembly will highlight the critical facets of the global energy transition that the world is undergoing. The IRENA Assembly will be the first major inter-governmental meeting taking place following COP21 in Paris. With renewable energy integral to the future of any action on climate change, and the IRENA membership considering the future work of the Agency, this Assembly will begin operationalising the outcomes of Paris into a credible and sustainable international effort to scale up renewable energy deployment.

Items for consideration at the sixth session of the Assembly, include, among others:

Annual Report of the Director-General on the implementation of the 2014-2015
Work Programme and Budget
Work Programme and Budget for 2016-2017
Review of the Medium-term Strategy 2013-2017
IRENA/ADFD Project Facility

This year, the IRENA Assembly again coincides with the beginning of the Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week (ADSW), a high-profile series of international energy meetings to be held in Abu Dhabi on 18-21 January 2016. ADSW will also feature a number of meetings and thematic events hosted by IRENA.
